Jodi Pettersen - Head of Client Relationships & Distribution
Jodi is responsible for managing relationships with existing clients and developing new clients. She has seven years’ work experience in the funds management industry.
Previously, Jodi was a Business Development Manager at Shed Enterprises, Australia’s longest running third party marketing firm responsible for raising capital for asset managers. There her focus was primarily on representing GAM, a large UK based asset manager in Australia and New Zealand, working across a variety of asset classes and investment strategies.
Prior to that Jodi worked Deloitte in their Financial Advisory Services division focusing on restructuring and management consulting.
Jodi holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of Technology Sydney and holds leadership responsibilities within 3TOM, The Young Super Network and Women in Super.
Victor Lee - Investment Analyst
As an Investment Analyst, Victor has a portfolio-wide responsibility for 8IP’s modeling and investment research. He has 12 years of work experience in financial markets and accounting.
In 2006 Victor joined Legg Mason Asset Management as an Equities Analyst in their Australian team. He was responsible for stock coverage in real estate equities. Victor worked previously in private wealth management, lending and management accounting.
Victor holds an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management and is a CFA Charterholder.
Kerry Series - Principal and Chief Investment Officer
As Chief Investment Officer of the Manager, Kerry is responsible for 8IP’s investment management activity. His primary focus is on delivering investment returns through the active management of funds managed by 8IP.
Kerry has advised or invested in equities since 1992. His investment experience includes a number of senior roles. In 1999 he co-founded Perennial Investment Partners, which achieved strong investment performance and reached $20 billion in assets under management within eight years.
Prior to co-founding 8IP, he was the Head of Asia Pacific Equities at AMP Capital where he was responsible for three investment teams that managed approximately $5 billion of assets. Kerry also spent time in Hong Kong where he was an Investment Director for HSBC Asset Management.
Kerry is a significant shareholder in 8IP and 8IP Australia. He has a Bachelor of Science (Economics) from Birkbeck College, University of London; is a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA); and holds a UK Securities Industry Diploma.
Stephen Walsh - Principal and Portfolio Manager
Stephen co-manages the 8IP Australian Small Companies Fund and the 8IP Australian Small Companies Portfolio. He has 28 years of work experience in management consulting and financial markets.
Stephen started his career at Lloyds Merchant Bank in London in 1987. He moved into Management Consulting with LEK Consulting, advising corporations on corporate strategy and M&A and studied for an MBA at INSEAD in France in 1995.
Stephen returned to financial markets in 1996, initially at Credit Agricole WI Carr Securities in Indonesia and Singapore. He led Consumer Sector Research across Asia ex-Japan and was ranked number one Consumer analyst in Asia in the region. Moving to Australia in 2000, Stephen joined Macquarie Bank’s Equities Research division in Sydney as Division Director leading Australian Banks Research.
Stephen then joined small cap specialist broker and funds manager Wilson HTM as Head of Research. He was promoted to Head of Equities with responsibility across Equities Research, Institutional Sales and Corporate Finance / Equity Capital Markets.
Stephen is a significant shareholder in 8IP. He holds a Bachelor and Master of Arts from Cambridge University, and an MBA from INSEAD on a Louis Franck Scholarship
Gary Cullen - Head of Risk and Operations
As Head of Risk and Operations for 8IP, Gary is responsible for the firm’s operations, reporting and risk analysis.
Gary started his career with Bank of Ireland, first in Dublin and later in New York, where he focused on foreign exchange and money market administration. He later moved to INVESCO Asset Management where he was involved in the development and administration of the firm’s offshore product range. Gary also spent two years with the Irish Stock Exchange as a listing adviser within the Investment Funds Listing Department.
More recently, Gary worked with JP Morgan where he managed a team of performance analysts and advised superannuation clients on portfolio performance and risk analysis. Just prior to joining 8IP, Gary was with AMP Capital on an operational improvement project. There, Gary led an information technology delivery team responsible for the implementation and integration of a number of investment management software systems.
Gary has a Bachelor of Business Studies (Accounting and Finance) with Honours from the University of Limerick.
Rick Steele - Chief Executive Officer
Drawing on more than 30 years in funds management and government, Rick oversees the operations of 8IP.
After a successful career in the Australian Treasury, Rick entered the financial markets as the Chief Economist at Prudential Assurance (Prudential). He then moved into investment management as a portfolio manager at Prudential, specialising in fixed income and foreign exchange. Rick went on to hold similar positions at BT Funds Management (BT) and Morgan Grenfell Australia.
Most recently, Rick has focused on the management of funds management businesses serving as the CEO of TechInvest, a specialist global equity manager. Prior to that he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the institutional asset management business at BT.
Rick holds a Bachelor of Economics with Honours from the University of Tasmania; a Master of Economics from the Australian National University; is a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and has completed the AICD Company Directors Course.
